Finland

After two months in Finland, I believe I can say more or less how is the country and people like.

Nice country with landscapes, nature, no historical buildings.

The reason They do not have old buildings is that once They used to relate to  Russia and Sweeden They built new ones. May be not a good idea in a cultural terms.

They have built practic buildings, small kitchen near the toilet, so engineers may use the same water connection.

Different language, You can not compare it with another one. They think It is an easy language to learn, because even their childs can speak it.

Kind people, always ready to help. Not easy to enter in a group, but once You succeed You will stay ever.

At work if they do not say anything is that all is alright, so it's better to not receive any comment. After a couple of weeks I have understood.

Weather, not so raining, just some days it rains during the week, not to heavy but enough to get wet in a quickly way.

Traditions: Having a small breakfast at 6/7, having lunch at 11/12, just one warm meal/day. At 6 pm They also might have a sandwich.

Berries, mushrooms are everywhere, You can taste nice cakes and good dishes with those.

In winter times, When its minus 25/30 degrees People stay at their homes. They have good heat systems, 3-4 windows, to keep warm inside of the house.

Then They only have 5-6h of sun, In Lapland They do not have any hour of sun at all...:(

Lakes are frozen those times, People can drive with his car from one side to the other. It's safety, I should believe...

Sauna is another important thing in Finland. Normal temperature is 70 degrees. More than 80 is not healthy, results of competition are the prove of that.

It is normal for them to go from the lake (0degrees/-4 degrees) to sauna (70/80 degrees), good change of temperature, but fins are use to it.

Fins do not externalize a lot their feelings, but When They do is true. So if a Fin says "I love you" it will be a deep and truth feeling, You must believe.

They have two officials languages, Finnish and Swedish. And of course, everyone speaks English in a perfect way.

It's quite different from Spain. In meals They do not talk a lot, just eat. If They drink, They just drink. Eventhough They are trying to drink while eating and drinking some wine.

It is a good idea if You want to realize How really fins are ,go to some party or Karaoke(like Pata assa in Helsinki) . They are quite open once drunk.

Using a car it is not frequent, most of people use public transport, it's cheaper.

Secure place, small % of corruption...so easy going place one fin told me once. That's why suicide rate is so high, because of the weather and the quietness.

Why people from other countries choose Finland as a country to live for a long time?

Young people because of course Finland is well known for the good level of studies. Adults might come to find a good job with better salary conditions.

Finland has more than 10 thousands lakes, so People usually has one boat at least. They also have summer cottage, wooden houses, sometimes made by themselves.

Koli, 550km from Helsinki.
